Now that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been out for a bit, I thought it would be fun to look at some of the costuming in the movie. If you haven’t seen The Rise of Skywalker, turn back now, as we’re about to go to Spoilersville.
Alright! So there’s been much ado about Lando’s exchange with Jannah at the end of the movie. That exchange, combined with an entry in the Star Wars Visual Dictionary stating that Lando had his infant daughter abducted by The First Order, is making people question if Jannah is perhaps Lando’s daughter.
So let’s look at what the costuming is telling us. Back in August I deconstructed Lando’s design. If you haven’t read that post, you might want to visit it now before scrolling on. Because the costume designer on The Rise of Skywalker is visually referencing Lando’s design in Jannah’s design.
As I said in Lando’s design post, Lando’s styling relies on three colors—gold, sky blue and navy, worn in different combinations over the four films. A split neck shirt and cape with a collar are his staple items.
Looking at Jannah’s color palette, she’s in yellow and navy, with cream and a dusty blue as her accent colors.
Then there’s the cape–she’s got one! Cape’s aren’t very common for our rebel friends in Star Wars.
I think the texture on Jannah’s cape is a fun callback to the lining of Lando’s cape in Empire.

So, is Jannah Lando’s daughter? It sure seems like her design is foreshadowing that!
